Frequently asked questions

Is AADL specific to avionics?

Although AADL initially meant "Avionics Architecture Description Language", it is not specific to avionics and may absolutely suit to other domains. This name is historic, and has been changed into "Architecture Analysis & Design Language".

May AADL be applied to the space domain?

Yes. A study has already been led by Axlog for the european space agency (ESA) to evaluate AADL and its interest for this domain.

May AADL be applied to the automotive domain?

Probably. The needs of the car industry are fairly similar to ones of the aeronautic and space industry. Some projects are currently led by the leaders of the automotive industry, where the use of architecture description languages are envisaged. AADL could be adapted to cover the needs of this domain.

I am working in a particular domain. May AADL be useful for me?

AADL has already shown its capability to support various application domains. In any case where the need of an ADL is detected to describe a system architecture, AADL may be envisaged.

The AADL standardization committee is open to contributions from all the domains of the industry. So, if a particular domain proposes complements which may extend the application field of AADL, these propositions might be integrated into the standard.

Axlog can help you to evaluate the interest of AADL for your situation, and to study the changes and additions which should be done in AADL to adapt it. Contact us to have more complete information.
